PTR 2009 Asia Tennis Symposium |
|
October is a beautiful time of year in China, and this year there was a celebratory atmosphere with China marking its 60th birthday. And to add to the festivities, the annual PTR Asia Tennis Symposium was held at Shanghai Racquet Club from 12th to 15th October.
As with previous years, the symposium, in its third year, gathered outstanding speakers and coaches from all over the world. PTR China, the symposium organizer, invited several well respected international and local people from the tennis industry to speak. The speakers gave quality presentations ¨C on the court and in the classroom - on a variety of topics all relevant to the tennis industry today. The speakers included: PTR Professional Lisa Duncan (USA) and PTR Master Professional Ajay Pant (USA), both of whom are USTA Master Trainers for Recreation Coaches; Jason M. Conviser Ph.D FACSM (USA) - senior executive consultant in the health care/health club industry; Jia Jin Zhe (China) - General Manager, CTA Tennis Promotion, Chinese Tennis Association; Tao Zhi Xiang (China) ¨C China¡¯s only Tennis Professor, from Beijing Sports University; Liao Wang (China) ¨C racquet stringing specialist; Conrad Singh (Australia) ¨C Shanghai Racquet Club Head Tennis Professional and Director of SRC¡¯s SETA.
All of the speakers are well respected in their fields within the tennis industry and have extensive commitments in their schedules, so their commitment, professionalism and enthusiasm to help make the symposium a success was greatly appreciated by the attendees and organizer. |

| Jason M. Conviser presented on Tennis Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation. |
| The symposium attendees made up a multi-cultural group and countries represented included China, USA, Spain, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, UK and New Zealand. The energy and eagerness from the attendees made for a positive learning environment, and as a result of informative and impacting presentations, there was plenty of discussion among the attendees on the topics that they had seen. The symposium also provided a great networking opportunity for all involved. In addition, symposium attendees enjoyed an ATP Player Clinic and received a ticket and transportation to the 2009 Shanghai ATP Masters 1000 which was held the same week. |

| The ATP Player Clinic featured Gong Mao Xin from China. This provided a great opportunity for the attendees to observe a hitting demonstration from a current tour player, and a great connection for the Chinese attendees. A number of Shanghai Racquet Club¡¯s SETA (Shanghai Elite Training Academy) juniors did very well as hitting partners for Gong during the clinic. Gong¡¯s remarkable performance in his match the previous evening against Safin provided confidence in the future of China¡¯s tour-level tennis and his humility gave the clinic a relaxed and fun feel. |
